This medical negligence only practice is national in scope.
2022 was a noteworthy year for the practice in that regard. Exceptional multi-state results included a $800,000 jury verdict in Tucson for 80 y.o. client in a botched temporal artery biopsy case and a $1,000,020 total settlement in a mismanagement of acute pancreatitis case out of Maricopa County, Arizona. Other outstanding results included a confidential settlement in an Erb’s Palsy (shoulder dystocia- obstetrical malpractice) case out of Georgia and a confidential settlement in a South Carolina wrongful death action related to mismanagement of aortic valve stenosis.
Mr. Sumner in 2023 continued to demonstrate his considerable knowledge and expertise in litigating heart attack mismanagement cases by achieving at mediation the maximum allowable recovery (per statute) in an ER case out of South Carolina involving what is referred to in the field of cardiology as a non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). Mr. Sumner during his previous years as a defense medical negligence specialist in Ohio in the 1990’s represented the Cleveland Clinic Foundation (CCF). The CCF is one of the finest centers for cardio-thoracic surgery, such as coronary artery bypass, in the world, and this trial lawyer’s relationships with CCF physicians and surgeons allowed him to acquire significant additional knowledge in management of emergent or life threatening cardiac disorders, knowledge Mr. Sumner has continued to expand upon during his decades of experience since.
Mr. Sumner has recently served as keynote presenter/speaker for a national live webcast titled “40 Years in the Trenches: Missteps and Myths and Triaging Medical Negligence Cases for Merit” on August 15, 2024. This was an accredited trial lawyer skills continuing education course (CLE) sponsored by the National Business Institute, an organization many practicing lawyers now rely upon for accredited educational and practice improvement courses.
Most recently, Mr. Sumner was a keynote speaker for another national webcast presentation, again sponsored by NBI, titled “Medical Evidence Mastery for Personal Injury Lawyers.” The program was held on January 23, 2025. Mr. Sumner’s presentation topic was on helpful tips for trial lawyers in locating and/or selecting qualified and credible medical expert witnesses in medical malpractice and other personal injury cases.
Mr. Sumner is continuing to passionately fight for patients and families suffering catastrophic injuries or losses due to medical negligence.
